Hot Kitchens For 2014
The National Kitchen and Bath Association recently conducted a style report with 420 designers to understand what’s going to be ‘hot’ in kitchen design for 2014.
As a Home Stager and lover of interior design, I’m always interested to know what motivates buyers.
The report hands-down states that homeowners are wanting less ornamentation, simple style and neutral colours. Useful features that blend in seamlessly with the design (such as pull outs and touch-activated faucets).
Style: 62% of respondents said contemporary will be the fastest growing style.
Colour Scheme: All of you who jumped on the Grey band-wagon will be relieved to know that Grey will still be dominate in the colour scheme. Whites and off-whites still remain popular also.
Cabinets: Designers believe that white cabinets have finally fallen off their pedestal. Expect dark woods to grow in popularity and homeowners will continue their love affair with glass doors.
Countertops: The stone of choice will be quartz, topping granite and other stone materials.
Back splashes: The widely popular glass tiles will continue to grow even more popular.
Flooring: The lure of wood floors is No. 1 with homeowners, followed by ceramic and/or porcelain tile.
Sinks: Although stainless steel remains the favourite, expect to see more granite. Didn’t see that one coming!
Faucets: Homeowners are not ready to walk away from their pull-out spouts in their faucets. However they are leaning towards touch-activated models.
Appliances: Technology and gadgets continue to rule. Watch for microwave drawers this year.
Simple, clean and minimal design is soaring in popularity. Can’t wait!
